In September 2012 this multinational consumer goods company engaged Proco Global in the recruitment of indirect procurement talent for Asia. They were insourcing their previously outsourced procurement function, which had created a number of external vacancies regionally.
Most of these positions were at Senior Procurement Manager level across the region. While the key searches were conducted in China and Singapore, the client was also keen to understand the local talent pool in Thailand and the Philippines so that they could benchmark available candidates verses internal hiring options.
Over the next couple of months Proco Global worked with this organisation as part of a global project to recruit indirect procurement talent. We worked with their Project Leader to understand the priorities and specific requirements in each country and subsequently, the level of local talent available.
The client was keen to ensure that local talent was recruited for each position to ensure stability and sustainability locally. It was also vital that each candidate had worked at a regional level within two key categories, Marketing and HR/Professional Services.
The process was challenging because there was a significant amount of change happening across the business at the time. There were also a number of stakeholders involved in each hire, while our communication was centralised between the hiring managers and candidates.
Over the course of the next two months, market mapping information followed by shortlists were presented for Singapore, China, Philippines and Thailand specific to the needs in each country.
Within four months a Marketing Services Procurement Manager and a Marketing Materials Procurement Manager were recruited into the Shanghai office and a HR and Professional Services Procurement Manager was recruited into Singapore.
All candidates were recruited locally and within the agreed budget. Additionally, all three candidates have continued to progress well within the organisation over a year later.
For Thailand and the Philippines the client recruited the positions internally after benchmarking the external candidates with local talent at a similar level.
