In January 2013, this global brewing company approached Proco Global with a search for a Country Supply Chain Director for their Greenfield build in Myanmar.
A unique proposition, in a truly emerging market was the challenge to attract a qualified candidate who would relocate as an expatriate to a country with very limited infrastructure. Specifically, they needed someone with a strong brewing background, with Greenfield experience, preferably in South East Asia, or in another developing market.
The Proco Global APAC research team undertook a full mapping of the brewing industry in South East Asia as well as exploring competitors in Africa.
Within three weeks, a short list of nine qualified candidates were introduced, of these six progressed to interview stage. After a lengthy process, a Filipino candidate was selected for final round and flown to HQ in Hong Kong. There was a late internal application from a qualified candidate so the client decided to go with him and closed the role internally.
Having been impressed by the speed and quality of the candidates introduced by Proco Global, the client engaged Proco Global exclusively in December 2013 to identify the Brewing & Process Manager to be based in Myanmar reporting to the newly appointed Supply Chain Director.
Having a strong network within the brewing industry, Proco Global supplied a qualified shortlist of candidates based on both professional experience and personal circumstances within two weeks of briefing. As their preference was for someone overqualified, rather than up and coming, Proco Global creatively suggested the option of a three-year contract and presented a retired candidate with over 30 years of experience.
The offer was accepted and the candidate began employment in Myanmar on the 1st of April 2014.
In addition to this placement, the client has re-engaged two of the candidates previously introduced for opportunities based in Laos and Vietnam with all three candidates successfully progressing within the organisation.
