Proco Global was approached by this leading brewing company to assist in the search for a Technical Development Manager based in Papua New Guinea. Due to the remote location and particular skillset required this was a challenging position to fill.
Proco Global was briefed by the client's Asian operations, on the difficult-to-fill Technical Development Manager position, to be based in Papua New Guinea (PNG) covering three breweries at the end of 2013.
As the Area Supply Chain Director had a strong ongoing relationship with another executive search firm we agreed to approach the search on a contingent basis.
Due to the nature of the Papua New Guinea work landscape and the extensive international technical and quality brewing experience required, this position was focused towards suitable global expats. Coupled with the temperamental cultural problems, lack of schooling and social capabilities in PNG there were certain lifestyle factors to consider as well.
By reviewing our current extensive beverage network, we were able to identify six potential candidates who fit the expertise and were open to a three-year relocation contract in Papua New Guinea. From this shortlist presented to the client, four were selected for initial interview, with one candidate quickly progressing through to the final stages.
Within the following month to ensure cultural fit, the final candidate visited the local plants to meet the team in person and was then offered and accepted the position.
Due to the difficult visa process for the region, the successful candidate started in April 2014 and spent the first few months working in various European & Asian breweries until his visa was approved and he was able to complete his relocation. Things are progressing well for the candidate, with him settling in to the company and PNG.
